Education spending in America ranges from $15,000 to $45,000 per student. However, overall, there is little indication that simply increasing spending will improve educational outcomes. Constant stress on money draws attention away from other important educational issues.

A new proposed amendment to the Ohio constitution would effectively give the Ohio Board of Education total control over school spending. This will not improve education in Ohio. Simply spending more money doesn’t work. Milton & Rose D. Friedman Foundation Research Director Greg Forster explains that the state must look to proven methods of improving school choice will do far more to improve the educational outlook of Ohio than large spending increases.

Getting it Wrong for Ohio’s Future

A new proposed amendment to the Ohio Constitution, placing the State Board of Education in charge of determining K-12 school funding, is a blank check for Ohio's public schools. The proposal rests on a fallacy that Ohio’s schools are under-funded, and that more dollars would lead to inherently better schools. Very little evidence supports this assertion.
