About the Liberty in Learning Center

The mission of the Liberty in Learning Center is to improve the quality of education in Ohio through increased choice, efficiency, and competition.

Our objectives for the Liberty in Learning Center include:

  • Ohio's adoption of a universal K-12 education voucher

We strive to create awareness, understanding, and acceptance of the universal voucher on the part of policymakers and opinion-leaders. We also support intermediate policy steps toward universal school choice, including vouchers for special education, Pre-K services, unsafe schools and foster families, and tuition scholarship tax credits.

  • Identify solutions to policy roadblocks to successful child-centered funding of schools

The only way to ensure that all children have the same educational opportunities and equal resources to obtain them is to adopt a student-centered school funding system. Doing so will also create powerful incentives to improve school performance.

  • Educate the public about teacher unions and collective bargaining

Studies have shown that collective bargaining limits the ability of schools to hire and fire staff as needed, ties the hands of educators when it curriculum innovation, and shelters the unions from accountability. The Buckeye Institute believes collective bargaining must be reformed if our schools are to improve.

  • Educate the public about a pending ballot measure which would amend the constitution enshrining school district government schools as the sole entity eligible for state education aid
