In case you missed this…

Over the holidays Peter Bronson wrote in the Enquirer about the message of our recent guest speaker in Cincinnati, Arthur C. Brooks, author of Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism:

And because givers are happier and less stressed, they are more successful, Brooks said.

For each $100 donated, statistics show, they get richer by $375. Giving time and money to others “is better for your health than giving up smoking,” Brooks found.

“My research on this topic has changed my life and enriched me beyond what I ever could have imagined,” he said.

If he’s right, the gift of giving could explain a lot. It might explain why people who take personal responsibility for the less fortunate are happier than those who abdicate that obligation to government programs.
