Teacher Unions Playing Politics in Ohio

Thursday, January 24th, 2008 By David Hansen

Mike Antonucci reports (see “Communique” for week of Jan 22) the NEA spent $680,000 on the Ohio minimum wage ballot initiative last year, a measure that has no bearing on the pay or benefits of tenured teachers and other school employees reaping windfalls from public employee collective bargaining.

Got to wonder what they are ponying up for the paid sick leave measure. $1.5 million? $3.0 million? Or more? Anything to deliver Ohio for HRC, no matter how much it tightens the stranglehold of Big Labor on Ohio growth and prosperity.

Or no matter if a third of teachers (or more) don’t favor her (see here for a current though unscientific “readers poll” from Teacher magazine that’s consistent with my recollection of more formal teacher polling over the years).
