Slumbering giant
Monday, May 5th, 2008 By Mike MaurerThe inimitable Bill Cohen of Ohio Public radio reports today that among bills on tap this week in the Ohio General Assembly is a bill that would ban the sale of American flags that are not made in America.
Don’t stop there, guys. Let’s ban copies of the Constitution that aren’t printed on American paper and bound by American workers. And since the Internet is taking over everywhere, let’s ban display of the Constitution except by American electrons.
Of course Ohio isn’t the first or only state to try this silliness.
This is the kind of nonsense up with which Americans should not put. It sounds like a job for the Dormant Commerce Clause. Or it would be, anyway, if we didn’t have a dormant judiciary.

So, what do you have against flags made in America? Is that what they pay you for?
