Racism

Vindy is all over some pretty stupid things said by Democrat legislators who seem to have called, not Republicans, but independents, swing voters and Democrats who don’t vote for Obama racists.
Ugh.
Even so, it’s a bit hard to credit the story as a serious one. “A local Republican official is shocked by the Democratic legislators’ comments” is the headline. Yes, the Repubilcans are shocked, shocked by the Democrats and doubtless the Democrats are shocked, shocked, by the Republicans. Now, don’t anyone forget, Americans are demanding serious discussion in their presidential politics.
(The story goes on to note Joe Biden’s rally “Change We Need.” What is that, the Yoda campaign? “Change we need; income we lack; vote you must”?)
Speaking of racism, there’s a remarkable number in the Ohio Newspaper Poll reported today. When asked, “If the election were held today, who would you vote for?” the line response under “Race African American” was 98 percent Obama, zero percent McCain (1 percent went for Ralph Nader, while the rest presumably is rounding error, since “Don’t know” is also zero percent).
Zero percent? That’s pathetic and incredible. It represents an awful chasm. Shame on both our major political parties for tolerating it and indeed promoting it.
