Marc:

Please let me try to explain the growth in teacher's union. Since Ted is throwing more money at the education system (aka teachers) and setting up property taxes to be tied to inflation instead of what the voters approved; the teachers and thus the union will have more money (aka power).

As a side benefit Ted gets more money spent on his next campaign by the teacher's union. So its all good, all around.

I am against longer school days, a longer school year and full day kindergarten. The problem is not the amount of time kids spend in school. The current school calendar is already longer than when we were children and student performance has declined. The problem is with the quality of the teachers and focusing the curriculum on the traditional subjects rather than adding a bunch of pc fluff that is just meant to indoctrinate the children. By keeping kids in school for longer periods, you are just exposing them to bad teaching for longer periods of time. You are also taking away from valuable family time and further eroding the importance of parents in the life of a child.

I must have missed the part of the speech where teacher union power grows. Care to share?
