Do you, Sherlock?

Friday, February 13th, 2009 By Mike Maurer

Peggy Noonan sees the problem, but can’t see herself in the mirror.

She writes this column critical in equal shares of the parties-how fair of her- even mocking them with a variation of the “No doody, Sherlock,” and then gives us this:

We hire politicians to know what to do about empty stores, job loss, and ‘Retail Space Available’.”

No, ma’m, we don’t. We elect them, not hire them, and we elect them to do very narrow jobsĀ and we want them to stay out of the way of our freedoms and the bigger, important jobs. When you “contribute” thought such as this, you are the problem. You’re supposed to be on the side of the free markets. If you consider yourself a socialist, that’s fine. Nothing wrong with it, apart from the idea that it doesn’t work and causes the very harms cited to justify it, but if you believe it that is your God given right.

But don’t try to have it both ways.
