Columbus, Ohio – Obama’s Poster Child
Friday, March 27th, 2009 By Beth Lear
Our beautiful capital city is getting national media attention thanks to Obama and his stimulus plans. Too bad, because it’s not good press – it’s embarrassing.
First, an entire class of police officers will forever be in debt to the President for “saving their jobs”. And the mainstream media was happy to broadcast the story so everyone in the country could see our city standing with our hand out, begging. Unfortunately, these officers may be the ones standing in line begging for unemployment unless Columbus can come up with the funds to pay for their jobs after this year.
Now Rush Limbaugh has spread news coast to coast about a project Obama is funding for us. Obama’s going to build a protective railing for a bridge in Columbus to keep people from jumping off of it. Seriously.
Political leaders in Columbus should be ashamed of ‘playing the victim’ just to get money and advance the President’s agenda. If we’re serious about attracting business and growth, we need leaders who don’t make us look like a backwards, cow-town waiting for our welfare check from the Feds.

Well,it’s refreshing that the public is now intelligent enough not to comment on your article,Like Rush, you present the facts—just the ones you want represented.Where were all of you “fiscally concerned” Republicans during the Bush years ? Society has a name for those kind of folks-hypocrites

Has Rush run out of Republicans apologizing to him? I’m tempted to say that if Rush is bloviating about something, it must, by definition, be a good thing.
But instead–even accepting, for the sake of argument, that stimulus money is “welfare,” now that the money is out there, it will be spent somewhere. Given that reality, may as well put someone in Columbus to work building a railing than somewhere else.
P.S. Thanks for helping to keep Rush front and center. If he didn’t exist, the Democrats would’ve had to invent him!

1) Have you bothered to confirm this report with any independent source, Beth? Or do you simply assume that anything Rush Limbaugh says must be factual — despite his documented history of lying?
2) Do you consider building a railing on a bridge a waste of money?
3) Are you in favor of allowing people to commit suicide whenever they wish, by whatever means they choose?
4) Did Columbus receive any federal money of any sort, for any purpose, during the eight years of the Bush administration? Did you point out the terrible, awful shame of Columbus “look[ing] like a backwards, cow-town waiting for our welfare check from the Feds” during those eight years? If so, please cite the specific article(s) in which you did so. If not, why not?

I may have been too quick in criticizing just Columbus – it looks like there are other Ohio cities involved, Akron, specifically. See one of many stories about it here: http://www.daytondailynews.com/n/content/shared-gen/ap/National/Stimulus_Bridge_Fencing.html
Truly, how many jobs will be created building these fences? Will the workers be able to afford new cars or homes from the huge amount of money they receive from a few hours or days building a couple of fences? Government cannot create long-term jobs, only the private sector can. And taking the hard-earned money from those who actually work for a living to “build fences” is not going to improve the economy. Government should provide tax cuts and loosen regulations so small businesses can expand and hire long-term employees, because eventually the workers will run out of “stimulus” to provide our benevolent government overseers.

Ah, I see… building railings to prevent suicides is something that cities should be criticized for, is that it, Beth? Is this the vaunted “right to life” philosophy I’ve heard so much about?
“Truly, how many jobs will be created building these fences?”
Right… because the only tasks worth doing are those that require thousands and thousands of workers. Honestly, Beth, do you think about anything you write before you post it?
