About the Center for Economic Freedom
The Center for Economic Freedom strives to protect Ohio's foundations of economic freedom, including personal choice, voluntary exchange under a rule of law, and free markets. The Buckeye Institute's research clearly shows that increasing economic freedom in the state is a necessary condition for returning Ohio to growth and prosperity.
Specifically, the Center for Economic Freedom actively works to lower taxes for all Ohioans, reduce the regulatory burden and the tort system burden on economic activity, and limit the size and cost of government.
Our objectives for the Center for Economic Freedom include:
- Resonate the findings of key research related to economic freedom
- Facilitate national interest in Ohio's movement toward eliminating its personal income tax/Work to eliminate the personal income tax in Ohio by 2018
- Operate a Policy Advocacy War Room constantly monitoring and responding to the critics of tax reduction in Ohio.
- Launch a public education campaign with the objective of igniting a debate about the income tax and injecting the facts of about economic freedom and prosperity into this debate.
- Develop the option for repealing the state constitutional amendment for an income tax through the ballot box and prepare model language for the measure.
- Guard against hidden taxes increases to replace the income tax via Ohio's regulatory system
