Former Columbus Mayor and Cincinnati Philanthropist Join Board of Trustees

COLUMBUS - The Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Solutions today announced the election of former Columbus Mayor and Nationwide Insurance senior executive Gregory B. Lashutka and the Lovett and Ruth Peters Foundation President Daniel S. Peters to the Buckeye Institute Board of Trustees. Lashutka and Peters replace successful Cincinnati entrepreneur Rick Segal and Ohio Arts Co. Chairman Bill Killgallon whose terms ended.

Lashutka, a senior consultant with Findley Davies, served as Mayor from 1992-1999 during which he produced a balanced budget every year without raising taxes, and served as President of the National League of Cities in 1996. Lashutka also spent 15 years in the private sector as the Senior Vice President for Corporate Relations at Nationwide Insurance and as a Partner in one of America's top law firms. He is a Director at the National Academy of Public Administration, an Executive Board member of the Boy Scouts of America, and a Trustee at Franklin University.

Peters spent 17 years at Procter & Gamble where he held a variety of executive positions in advertising, purchasing, and research and development. Peters recently completed his term as Chairman of the Board of The Philanthropy Roundtable, a national association of donors and corporate giving officers seeking to advance liberty, opportunity, and personal responsibility. Peters is a thought leader on K-12 education reform and former Board member of the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority. Peters previously served on the Buckeye Institute's Board, including a term as Chairman.

"We are excited to have such nationally well-known figures as Mayor Lashutka and Dan Peters join our efforts at such a critical time in Ohio's history," Buckeye Institute President Matt A. Mayer said. "Although we are sad to see Rick and Bill leave us, I am honored to have such highly respected leaders replace them and to lead the tough work ahead to improve the lives of hard working Ohioans."

"With the budget challenges down at the Statehouse and lack of ideas from our elected officials, I couldn't think of a better time for me to help reinvigorate the fiscal conservative movement in Ohio. We want to aggressively set the debate by producing game-changing solutions to Ohio's toughest challenges," Lashutka said. "Ohioans are hurting as job creation and entrepreneurship grind to a halt and government growth places unsustainable burdens on taxpayers. The lesson of the last two decades is clear: we must develop the big ideas to ensure that our elected officials make the right choices to get Ohio back in its feet," Peters stated.

The Buckeye Institute for Public Policy Solutions is a nonpartisan research and educational institute devoted to economic freedom and competitiveness, job creation and entrepreneurship, and government transparency and accountability.
