New Town, Same Policy Direction

The Club for Growth, a free market advocacy group, recently released its annual Congressional rankings. These rankings were based on a variety of Congressional votes, including ones on lowering taxes, reducing wasteful government spending, eliminating corporate welfare, restricting the government’s ability to seize private property under eminent domain, and promoting free trade.

Kudos to Steve Chabot who led the Ohio delegation with a score of 86. Mike Oxley came in second with a score of 70.

Unfortunately five scored in single digits: Tim Ryan rated a 9; and Representatives Kucinich, Tubbs Jones, and Kaptur all scored 7.

Also bringing up the rear with a 7 out of 100 in the Club for Growth rating is the man who now sits in the Governor’s chair, Ted Strickland. He voted against pro-growth, pro-freedom policies nearly every chance he got in 2006.

I ran into a Statehouse observer immediately after Strickland’s State of the State remarks last week. With his jaw gaping, my acquaintance expressed surprise at Strickland’s agenda of more government, more taxes and less freedom.

This Club for Growth analysis says there’s no reason for surprise.
