Energy & Environment

Ohio is one of the nation’s top 10 electricity producers and among the top five electricity consumers, putting the Buckeye State at the center of America’s push for energy independence and security. To ensure Ohio can meet its energy demands and benefit from its natural resources, The Buckeye Institute advances effective, fact-based policies to ensure the supply of energy is abundant and affordable, and embraces six guiding principles:

  • All taxpayer-funded government subsidies should be eliminated.
  • Policies that ensure energy reliability and affordability should be the priority.
  • Federal, state, and local permitting processes for energy projects should be fast and efficient.
  • Government-imposed mandates should be ended.
  • Abundant energy is needed for prosperity.
  • Energy policies should promote transparency and competition.

The Buckeye Institute’s efforts led to the adoption of Ohio House Bill 15 in 2025—the best energy reform policy in a generation. Since the passage of this landmark Buckeye-championed law, Ohio has attracted billions in private investment for new energy projects that will help the state keep pace with growing energy demand.
