The Plain Dealer has chosen an interesting light in which to portray Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac:

The U.S. Treasury Department on Sunday announced plans to loan more money and potentially buy large chunks of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the latest victims of the nation’s mortage [sic] mess.

And here some of us have been misled by the idea that these two GSEs were active participants in the nation’s mortgage mess…
