With the stroke of a pen, the Alaska Supreme Court cut off Levi and Vern Fiehler’s practical access to their family home by redrawing century-old property lines. The move was not only unfair—it was also unconstitutional. The U.S. Supreme Court expressed interest in the Fiehlers’ property rights case in January and may grant full review soon. Tune in for a lively discussion about how this potential Supreme Court case could help protect millions of property owners from abusive overreach by state governments.
The panel will feature:
Levi Fiehler never imagined he would be fighting before the Supreme Court to protect his family’s home. Like many homes in rural Alaska, there is no road to Levi’s property. The only practical access is by boat to a small beach. When neighbors sued to take ownership of the beach, the Alaska government rewrote the federal property lines that were established in the 1930s, denying the Fiehlers the only access point to their property.
Join us to hear Levi’s story and learn how Alaska’s decision goes far beyond its constitutional power—and why it is increasingly likely that the Supreme Court will grant CIR’s petition in Fiehler v. Mecklenburg to correct this grave error.
