Jul 09, 2026

Columbus, OH – Policies tirelessly championed by The Buckeye Institute over the course of years helped make Ohio “America’s Top State for Business,” according to new rankings released by CNBC on Thursday. Now in its 20th year, CNBC’s ranking scores “all 50 states on 138 metrics in 10 broad categories of competitiveness,” with Ohio having earned 1,623 points out of a maximum of 2,500, securing the Buckeye State in the nation’s top spot.

“At The Buckeye Institute, we have long known that good public policies equal good results, and now we are seeing the fruits of those sound economic policies,” said Rea S. Hederman Jr., vice president of policy and executive director of the Economic Research Center at The Buckeye Institute. “From tax cuts to eliminating unnecessary regulations to the best energy reforms in the country, Ohio and The Buckeye Institute are leading the way.”

As CNBC put it, Ohio’s success “is the pinnacle of a long climb for the Buckeye State, once considered the buckle of the Rust Belt. Ohio finished 30th in the inaugural CNBC study in 2007. Today, it has become a magnet for growth, capital, and innovation.”
