The Buckeye Institute: Senate’s Tax Cuts Will Help Ohio Economy Grow, But Increased Spending Is Problematic

Jun 20, 2019

Columbus, OH – Robert Alt, president and chief executive officer of The Buckeye Institute, issued the following statement reacting to the state budget passed by the Ohio Senate on Thursday.

“The budget passed by the Ohio Senate includes a tax cut for hardworking Ohioans that is both fair to taxpayers and sound policy for the state’s long-term economic growth, but the same budget also increases spending by more than $318 million over the already bloated House budget. This unsustainable level of spending would make a drunk sailor blush.

“With the June 30 deadline for finalizing the budget looming, The Buckeye Institute strongly urges lawmakers in both the House and Senate to retain the pro-growth tax policies adopted by the Senate, to implement the Senate’s approach to reducing needless regulations that harm Ohio’s economic growth, and to embrace the House reforms that would rein in health care and Medicaid costs.”
