Columbus, OH – Robert Alt, president and chief executive officer of The Buckeye Institute, issued the following statement reacting to Governor Mike DeWine’s State of the State speech.

“The Buckeye Institute applauds Governor Mike DeWine for highlighting pro-growth tax cuts, key regulatory reforms such as Senate Bill 9, and the expansion of telehealth in his State of the State speech. And Buckeye stands ready to work with his administration in any efforts to move from incarceration to treatment for so many with addiction and mental health issues.

“However, The Buckeye Institute strongly cautions the General Assembly to remain prudent when it comes to new and increased spending. Much of the spending that seems like a good idea today will become a financial burden that taxpayers of Ohio cannot afford in the years to come—particularly when the federal government turns off the COVID stimulus funding. Ohio cannot afford to forget this fundamental reality.”
