Bret Baker
Legal FellowBret Baker is a legal fellow at The Buckeye Institute. In this role, Baker assists Buckeye’s public interest litigation efforts that protect people’s rights and promote sound public policy through the courts.
Prior to joining The Buckeye Institute in 2025, Baker served as an assistant attorney general in the Ohio attorney general’s office, where he worked on civil investigations, civil litigation, and regulatory compliance matters involving charitable trusts, charitable fundraising, charitable gaming, gambling, and public records. During law school, Baker externed at the Federal Communications Commission, The Ohio State University Office of University Compliance and Integrity, and the Ohio Supreme Court.
A three-time graduate of The Ohio State University, Baker earned his B.S. in political science and economics, his master’ degree in public policy and management from the Glenn College of Public Affairs, and his J.D from the Moritz College of Law.
During law school, Baker was an executive articles editor for the Ohio State Law Journal, a faculty research assistant, and the president of Ohio State’s chapter of the Federalist Society. Baker was awarded the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for his appellate advocacy, D.C. ethics, and D.C. externship courses, and his student Note was selected for print publication in the Ohio State Law Journal.
